Clearing Barriers to Storm Data

Date: Wednesday, November 19

Time: 4pm ET

Get to Know the IoW Storm Events Database

Although the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has storm records dating back to the 1950s, for years they’ve been kept in a mass of CSV files, accessible only to highly technical users.

Now for the first time, anyone can easily discover and download data from nearly 2 million unique storm events to use in critical storm planning and decision-making with the IoW Storm Events Database, developed in partnership with the Nicholas Institute, The Commons, and Earth Genome.

In this webinar, tool developers from Earth Genome, The Commons, and the Nicholas Institute at Duke University will walk through the ins and outs of this new public resource. Plus, learn more about the background of the project and how the concept can be applied to other complex open data sets.
